Craig Ellwood designed residence. Refinishing of original woodwork. The finish on the tongue and groove exterior overhang was completely deteriorated due to time (50 years) and exposure to the elements. The refinish process started by sanding off the old finish back to the wood. It was then re-stained to match and one coat of Dutch varnish was applied to prevent moisture damage.
The interior Redwood was stripped and re-stained using aniline dye, glazed with oil stain and clear coated with lacquer.
The kitchen and built-in cabinetry was heavily sun faded and the finish had deteriorated, which we had to remove. Luckily we found the original stain color in a can in an outside closet which we were able to use as a guide to mix the new stain. The cabinetry was then stained and lacquered to original specifications.
